Tejas Mark-2 Project has received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Security. The Tejas Mark-2 fighter jet’s design and development, including prototypes, flight testing, and certification, would be funded by a 6500 crore rupee budget approved by the Committee. The funding is in addition to the 2500 crore rupees already approved for HAL.
A number of improvements to Tejas LCA’s flight and combat skills will be included in the upgraded model. Tejas 2.0 will have stronger GE-F414 engines in the 98 Kilonewton thrust class than the current Tejas, enabling it to carry greater payload and weaponry and expand its range of flight. The Tejas Mark-2 jet will have a four-ton payload capacity as opposed to the current model’s three tonnes.
