Orlando Jorge Mera, the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, was assassinated at his office yesterday. According to authorities, the Minister was in the middle of a meeting at the time of the incident. At least six shots were fired.
The perpetrator was described by a Presidential Spokesman as the Minister’s boyhood acquaintance. According to local media, the assailant is currently in arrest. The reason for the shooting is yet unknown.
Dominican Republic President Abinader conveyed his sorrow through Twitter.
