Xiaomi has surpassed Apple to become the world’s second largest smartphone seller.

The Chinese electronics giant ranked second in Canalys’ quarterly smartphone sales report with a 17% market share for the first time. A closely watched report showed that Samsung ranked first with positions, accounting for 19% of global smartphone shipments in the second quarter of 2021. Apple has a 14% market share

Ben Stanton, research manager at Canalys, said: “All vendors are fighting hard to secure component supply amid global shortages, but Xiaomi already has its sights set on the next prize: displacing Samsung to become the world’s largest vendor.

In a tweet, Xiaomi said “We’ve moved up one more spot! Just in from @Canalys, we are now the 2nd largest smartphone brand worldwide in terms of shipments. This amazing milestone couldn’t have been achieved without our beloved Mi Fans.”
