The 300-meter-long “Atal Bridge,” which spans the Sabarmati River here for pedestrians and cyclist, was officially opened on Saturday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to him, it was a tribute from the locals to the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a former prime minister. Down with the state’s BJP leader C R Paatil and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, the prime minister also strolled along the bridge and waved to passersby.
The eye-catching, only-for-pedestrians-and-cyclists bridge is 300 metres long and 14 metres wide in the middle. It also features LED lighting.
It links the future arts and culture centre on the eastern end of the Sabarmati Riverfront to the flower garden on the western end.
