According to reports, divorce cases are increasing in Rourkela smart city, which has a higher proportion of highly educated residents.

Between January and December 2022, 400 divorce cases and 139 maintenance cases were filed, according to Rourkela Family Court counsellor Arati Choudhury. 180 divorce cases have been filed here this year as of the end of May.

Divorce petitions were submitted in about 39 cases in January, 52 in February, 49 in March, 17 in April, and 23 so far in May. On the list of those requesting divorce in court, according to her, are those employed by police agencies, administrators, educators, healthcare experts including doctors, RSP officials, and income tax staff.

Other factors contributing to the rise in divorce cases in family court include the widespread use of social media, women becoming financially independent, and a lack of communication between the couple. The fact that women have made significant financial, social, and economic advancements over the past few years is one of the primary causes of rising divorce rates.

According to social activist Harapriya Pattnaik, traditional marriages frequently end in divorce because of the bride’s side’s needless meddling.
