India will open its campaign at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games with Table Tennis Paralympians Sonal Patel and Bhavina Patel, who will fight the preliminary rounds in their respective categories today, both starting with Chinese opponents in their first group stage matches. Coming to the 3rd place in the women’s singles in Group D, Sonal Patel will face Li Qian of China. Lee Mi Kyu from Korea is the last athlete in Group D. The winner of the group will advance to the next round. Bhavina Patel will compete in the women’s singles for 4th place in the first leg against another Chinese woman, Zhou Ying, world number two in this category.
Megan Shackleton from England is the third player in Group A. This is also the first Paralympic Games in Bhavin. The two table tennis players will also be India’s only representatives at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo tomorrow. India dispatched its largest Paralympic team, 54 Paralympic athletes competing in nine sports over a 12-day period from 25 August to 5 September.
