NDA Wins Bihar Assembly Polls 2020, EC Announces Results

The Bihar Elections 2020 was close fought, and in the end the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerged winners with 125 seats out of the 243 seats while Grand Alliance or Mahagathbandhan was close behind with 110 seats. Counting began on 10th November, early in the morning and went on late into the night as the number of EVMs was increased by 63% due to the COVID-19 situation, informed the Election Commission (EC).

This time around, only 57.03 % had cast their votes, out of the 7.3 crore voters in Bihar. In a bid to create social distancing, EC had increase polling station from 65,ooo in 2015 to 1.06 lakh this time, with restriction of 1000 to 1500 voters per polling station. Also, counting in 2015 was made at 38 locations, but this time around it was increase to 55.

All the exit polls had indicated the elections results to be in the favor of RJD-led Grand Alliance CM Candidate in Bihar candidate Tejashwi Yadav, but even after giving a tough competition to NDA, Yadav and its allies came second. One of the surprises of the Bihar elections of 2020 has to be the 5 seats that was won by Asaduddin Owaisi’s party All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul-Muslimeem (AIMIM). Party-wise the leaders are RJD with 75 seats, BJP with 74 seats and JDU with 43 seats, with Indian National Congress only winning 19 seats.

Nitish Kumar is likely to continue as the Bihar CM, with PM Modi and BJP Party President, J P Nadda having declared him as the CM face during the state election rallies.
