On Friday, Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra was in Rourkela to review progress of the construction work of the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium at Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) campus. He also reviewed the ongoing construction work of other development projects in the city.
The Chief Secretary has been regularly visiting Rourkela for inspection of the stadium construction. He has instructed departmental officials to hasten up the construction work of the stadium. In addition to the stadium, all roads leading to it are undergoing development. Currently, construction of the practice stadium and the gallery of the main stadium is in progress.
There are reports that few practice matches will be held at the stadium prior to the main event. Arrangements are being made in the BPUT campus to accommodate about 200 hockey players during the World Cup. The marquee hockey event, which is scheduled to start from 13 January 2023, will be held at Rourkela and Bhubaneswar.
