Team PAYAL conducts first-ever Ratha Sajaa competition in Rourkela

Payal – an institute of art and dance, established in 1985, conducted Rourkela’s first ever ‘Ratha Sajaa’ competition on 10^th July 2022 to mark the celebrations of Rath Yatra at Jagannath Temple in Sector 3. Despite it being a gloomy day with heavy rain showers, a number of participants were present for the competition to showcase their beautiful miniature chariots (rathas).

The colourful and artistically-designed chariots, made and showcased by young Rourkelites in the competition, are a testimony to the fact that Odia culture has not lost its shine and are in safe hands of youngsters. This novel initiative of Payal was part of its conscious effort to instil a sense of pride for Odia culture among Rourkelites and to reignite their love for it.

Speaking on this wonderful occasion, Gurumaa Ketaki Bhattacharya, Principal and Founder of Payal said, “We are extremely thankful to Rourkelites for their love and the media to make this competition a huge success. This is just the beginning. Many great things have been planned by Team Payal for the future. And yes, we are going to organize this competition every year.” She further appreciated the efforts of her team members for putting up such a wonderful event despite the bad weather.

Other team members, who were presented on this special occasion were Dr Pooja Pati, Joint Secretary, Payal; Shona Choudhary, Manasi Chakroborty, Rimi Chakraborty, Debika Ganguly, Likita Sethee and Sneha Ganguly.
