The Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud, will take oath on November 9.

On October 17, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that Justice D.Y. Chandrachud has been named the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI) by President Droupadi Murmu.

On November 9, the day after current Chief Justice of India Justice Uday Umesh Lalit leaves office after turning 65, Justice Chandrachud will take the oath of office.

As per the authority granted by the Indian Constitution, the Hon. President has appointed Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud, a judge on the Supreme Court, as the Chief Justice of India, effective as of November 9th, Mr. Kiren Rijiju tweeted.

Justice Chandrachud will be the Chief Justice of India for two years, compared to Justice Lalit’s brief 74-day term. The date of his resignation is November 10, 2024.
