The Serum Institute of India (SII) officials yesterday confirmed that the Central Government has signed a deal with them for 11mn doses of Covidshield, which is the Indian version of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
As per initial planning, the consignments would be flown from their Pune headquarter to nearest airports and then driven to the pre-decided depots. The consignment list has 60 locations mentioned on it, including Maharashtra, Gujarat and Chennai said an SII official.
Yesterday, PM Modi in his talk with the State Ministers has declared that the Centre will pay for the first 3 crore vaccines, and most likely these would be administered to frontline heathcare workers and their families.
