On Thursday (5th November 2020), Vice President Shri M Venkaiah Naidu launched the ‘International Satavadhanam’ program through video conferencing. This program was organized by Sri Krishnadevaraya Satsang in Tirupati under the guidance of Dr. Medasani Mohan, who was a Former Director of Annamacharya Project of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam; he is a well-known Avadhani. This unique initiative aims at celebrating India’s culture and heritage, with focus on the regional languages.

Speaking on the launch, Shri Naidu, said “Our mother tongue is our wealth. Writers, poets, linguists and others should put greater efforts to preserve our heritage and pass it on to future generations”. He congratulated Dr. Mohan for organizing such a program that aims at promoting and preserving the Indian languages and their heritage across the globe, and encouraged the participants (from 20 countries) and advised them to respect the roots of their mother tongue. Shri Naidu also suggested that ‘Avadhanam’, should be promoted across the country so that more languages come under its fold.

“Avadhanam is an exciting literary performance that involves solving tricky literary posers, improvising poems and tests a person’s capability of performing such multiple tasks simultaneously,” said Dr. Mohan. He further added that it is similar to the literary prowess and scholarship of a poet.

Shri Naidu in his talk also pointed out that civilizations can only prosper when its people respect their mother tongue and put efforts to preserve it. He commended the efforts of Dr. Mohan and the organizers for holding such an event in the current pandemic situation.
