The service was in testing for two years, and now it has been approved by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The service will follow the multi-bank model and will be live on Unified Payment Interface (UPI).

In a statement, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO Facebook, said “We’ve been working on this with the National Payments Corporation of India, who oversee everything to make sure it’s secure and reliable.
