Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews scripted an unwanted record in World Cup match. On Monday, he became the first player in the history of international cricket to be “timed out.”
The event happened during the Bangladesh vs. Sri Lanka ODI World Cup match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Mathews, appeared to be having problems with the strap of his helmet and was slow to take the strike after Lankan batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama was removed in the innings’ 25th over.
Because of a helmet problem, it took the former skipper of Sri Lanka more than two minutes to take the bat. Bangladeshi captain Shakib Al Hasan appealed during this wait, and the on-field umpire upheld his appeal.
