After a fight over the alleged violation of a religious banner erupted in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrpC were issued, and internet service was temporarily banned there. In addition, after a stone-throwing and arson incident on Monday morning, security forces marched with flags near the Kadma police station.
On Sunday, two groups in Jamshedpur’s Shastrinagar threw bricks at each other and set fire to two stores and an autorickshaw before police opened fire with tear gas to separate the crowd. According to the police, tension in the neighbourhood had been building since Saturday night, when local organisation members discovered that a piece of meat had been attached to a Ram Navami flag.
