The India Institute of Architects (IIA) Rourkela Centre holds its Inaugural Event

On 2nd October 2022 (Sunday), The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Rourkela Centre under the IIA Odisha Chapter held its inaugural event in Rourkela. The inaugural event saw participation of the members of the newly-formed centre. During the event, its 2nd General Body Meeting was conducted, chaired by its Chairman – Architect Rahul Sinha with support from the other office bearers. It is noteworthy that on August 20th 2022, it was declared as a sub-centre of the Odisha Chapter and now, within a short span of time, it has been fast tracked to the status of a Centre by the IIA’s National Council.

Headquartered at Mumbai, The India Institute of Architects is the national body of architects in the country. Established in 1917, this 105-year old professional body today has 24 Chapters, 57 Centres and 23 Sub-centres. The IIA Rourkela Centre is a new addition to its growing family. Associated with International Union of Architects (UIA), The Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation of Architects (SAARCH), IIA today has more than 25,000 members from across India. It plays a major role in promoting the profession of architecture in the country.

The vibrant IIA Odisha Chapter, under which the IIA Rourkela Centre has been formed, was established in 1990. Since, its inception, the chapter has been encouraging the study and practice of architecture in the state through its various state and national level programs. Now, with the Rourkela Centre under its tutelage, it is believed that it will be benefit the existing and upcoming architects of the city, in terms of support and guidance, thereby, aiding the growth of the architecture profession in Rourkela.
