Two officials of Sector 7 police station have been penalized by the authorities for their alleged misbehavior towards 5 people, including three minor boys, on the night of 8th April. Based on a report submitted by the Child Welfare Committee, Sub-inspector A Sethi has been suspended while another official S Nayak has been transferred to the Rourkela Police headquarters.

The incident in question happened on 8th April when a group of boys, managing the parking at Handloom Fair, Bhanja Bhavan (Sector 5) had an altercation with a lady police over the payment of parking fees of Rs. 10.

The boys in their allegation have stated that the lady police, who was in plain clothes, refused to pay the parking fees and began arguing with them.

Later on, she came along with her husband (also a police officer) to the spot. After which, her husband threatened the boys and called the Sector 7 police to get them arrested.

The police then took the five boys to the police station and retained them overnight. Even after several requests from the boys and their parents, police did not budge at all. In the morning, after pressure from all quarters, the boys were released finally by the police. Taking cognizance of the matter, the Child Welfare Committee began an investigation and recently submitted a report to Rourkela SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo, stating that the incident was a violation of child rights act.

The unhindered support received by the Western Range DIG Jay Narayan Pankaj and Rourkela SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo and their quick action in this case has been much appreciated by the public.
