Rourkela’s Shashank Shekar Das, who is popularly known in the city as the Paper Man, has earned a place in the Guinness World Records for his feat of collecting 4,952 newspapers in 94 languages that are from 142 countries.
He started his collection in the year 2000 when he was employed in the print media. He says, “I used to see people collect paper cuttings for information. This inspired me to collect newspapers of that time and preserve them. Slowly, others encouraged me to collect more and I held a newspaper exhibition eventually.”
Over the years, Shashank has travelled to different places to collect these newspapers. He has now built a library, where all these newspapers have been kept.
